PACT Marine Ballast Water Technology

PACT Marine designs and manufactures ballast water management systems based on self-cleaning filtration and medium-pressure ultraviolet disinfection. Micro Utilities Marine is developing Australian market access, engineering and project support around that technology.

Micro Utilities is developing an Australian ballast water treatment capability using PACT Marine ballast water management technology.

Treatment principle

Published PACT Marine BWMS architecture combines 40 μm self-cleaning filtration with medium-pressure ultraviolet disinfection. The process uses no active chemical substance in the ballast tanks. Performance claims beyond manufacturer-published data are not made here.

Equipment architecture

Filter unit, medium-pressure UV reactor(s), controls and associated instrumentation. Manufacturer materials describe modular, containerised and split arrangements, with vertical or horizontal installation to suit available space.

System range

Published capacities from approximately 200–4,000 m³/h, series P200–P4000. Final configuration is subject to engineering review and manufacturer confirmation.

Installation flexibility

Retrofit and newbuild arrangements are constrained by the vessel, not by a brochure layout. Deck-mounted and machinery-space installations are considered where the engineering supports them.

Type approvals

PACT Marine has published that type approvals have been issued for PACT Marine BWMS by classification societies, including historically for the P200–P4000 series. Manufacturer materials have also referenced approvals associated with Lloyd’s, RINA, CCS and others. An approval does not apply universally to every model, vessel, flag or jurisdiction. Current certificate, issuing body, applicable models and validity must be confirmed for the intended installation before any representation is made.

OEM engineering and support

PACT is the manufacturer. Micro Utilities Marine provides Australian market access, engineering and project support. Manufacturer support for a given project is agreement-dependent and is not assumed on this website.
